How the Opt-Out Cookie Works

After you implement the opt-out cookie on your website, the Webtrends JavaScript tag makes sure that no data is collected about visitors who have requested full opt-out.

The following graphic shows the logic involved:

When your visitor requests a page that uses a Webtrends JavaScript tag and the request contains the WTLOPTOUT=1 cookie, JavaScript does not set a first-party cookie or collect data about the visitor. If the request does not contain the WTLOPTOUT=1 cookie or the WT_FPC Webtrends first-party cookie, JavaScript creates a WT_FPC cookie and collects data using the first-party cookie. If the request contains WT_FPC, JavaScript updates the cookie and collects data using the first-party cookie.
