Understanding YouTube Key Metrics

The YouTube Analytics API provides metrics for your YouTube Channel space. The Webtrends JavaScript tag tracks YouTube videos embedded on a web page and provides Onsite metrics. Report data for these metrics is updated once each day.

For information about instrumenting your YouTube channel using the YouTube API, see the YouTube API Documentation.

YouTube Key Metrics (Webtrends JavaScript tag)

The following metrics are provided by the Webtrends JavaScript tag which tracks YouTube videos embedded on a web page. This tag is used to populate all Onsite reports for the space.

Top Traffic Sources

Lists the most popular methods visitors used to access your YouTube video.

Note: These metrics require a connection to the YouTube Analytics API. If your space uses Webtrends data only, this information is not available.

Playback Locations

Lists the most popular page, site, or device used to view your video.

Countries

Breaks down video viewing by country. Percentages are determined by resolving the Internet Protocol (IP) addresses of visitors to the page where the video is embedded.

Note: These metrics require that affected pages use the Webtrends JavaScript tag. If your space uses YouTube Analytics API data only, this information is not available.
