Using Alerts on Metrics

Alerts give you timely updates on key metric performance based on parameters you set. Analytics 10 can notify you when a key metric exceeds or doesn't reach a certain level by a time. Alert indicators tell you where alerts have been triggered () and also where they haven't ().

You can set alerts on Webtrends key metrics on space dashboards if your Webtrends account is licensed for alerting. External data, such as Facebook or iTunes Connect metrics, does not allow alert setting.

Alerts are not available for reports.

To use alerts, you must be in Annotations viewing mode Annotations mode button at the top right of the screen.

Types of Alerts

You can set two alerts for each key metric in a profile, one Exceeds alert and one Does Not Reach alert.

Notifies you when a key metric for a profile exceeds a certain level. For example, you could have Analytics 10 alert you when page views exceeds 10,000. A notification for an Exceeds alert can be triggered within minutes of the alert event.
Note: Analysis and data refresh for real-time enabled profiles typically takes fewer than five minutes, but can take up to ten minutes.
Does Not Reach
Notifies you if a key metric for a profile has not reached a certain level by a time you specify. For example, you could have Analytics 10 tell you if visits does not reach 500 by 4 o'clock. If the first analysis after 4 o'clock shows that visits has not reached 500, Analytics 10 triggers the notification for the alert.
Note: If your profile is not licensed for real-time data, all Does Not Reach alerts are processed at the end of the day.
When you set a Does Not Reach alert, you specify a time for Analytics 10 to check whether the metric has met the level you set. Bounce rate, average time on site, and average visitors per day are always processed at the end of the day.

Setting Alerts and Alert Notifications

  1. Select a metric from the bar chart area.
  2. Click the plus sign next to Alerts.
  3. Choose when you want to be alerted (when your metric exceeds a certain value or doesn't reach a value).
  4. Drag the red line or type the value in the text box to set the threshold level.

All of your alert notification methods are set up in Settings > My Preferences. You can choose to send alert notifications to your phone via Short Message Service, Twitter direct message, or when you log in to Analytics 10.

Note: The email, SMS, and Twitter options can be turned off by your administrator for your whole account, so they may not be available to all users.

Viewing Alert Indicators

The Alerts menu item on the top toolbar tells you when you have alerts on metrics. Indicators appear on the thumbnail on the account dashboard and on the key metrics on the space dashboard:

When an alert triggers, the red circle becomes a red dot. The dot remains visible unless the date range you are currently viewing has no triggered alerts or you delete the alert.

On the trend view graph, a red triangle and dashed line appear when an alert is set. An up arrow indicates an Exceeds alert and a down arrow indicates a Does Not Meet alert.

You can also click Alerts in the header to view all of your new alerts in a chronological list. In this dialog, you can edit alerts, view alerts in context, and convert alerts to notes before viewing them in context.

Tip: By default, the Alerts dialog opens automatically each time you log in. To change this behavior, click Settings > My Preferences and clear the At sign in check box under Alert Methods.
